BALANCE THE BUSINESS - YIN AND YANG

Everything in life is about creating a good balance - in nature, in our personal life and in our business. It is central in many cultures, in the west it is often overlooked.

We all excel (hopefully) at one or two key aspects of our business and tend to put a great deal of effort in these areas. Defocusing on the bits we do not like. With large business it is easier to get the balance right - you move resources or employ new people. In a small or family run business this option is often not available - therefore you need decipline. You should always think in business what is the opposite of what I am doing and what is the right balance or ratio. You need to set these balances or ratios in your mind and stick to them.

For example -
Is the stock coming in the back door, the same as going out the front door

Is the tedious aspects balanced with the fun (Booking Keeping is balanced with Marketing etc)

One thing you can do is to create balances in your mind -

You purchase the same or slightly more stock that is being sold on a monthly basis. If you sell 400 items - you target is to buy 400 more items. Beware of sales people wanting to create imbalance - that is there job......

For every 4 hours of creating/selling/networking/doing and need to complete 1 hour of administration (obviously the ratio changes for each business).

Imbalance is nature and in business often leads to disaster. So keep looking for balance - if you see an imbalance being created today - act on it today. Leaving it make the problem worse.

Number 1 - Get Motivated...........

To start a fire you need a source of ignition.
To start a business you need a source of inspiration.

Sometime inspiration comes from an original idea, more often than not it comes from outside influencers. The first few years of any business is tough and you need to make sure you are surrounded with motivation and positivity. This needs to be positive people, positive music and positive reading - these are 2 books which really helped me focus to start my business.

Duncan Bannatyne is so much more than Dragon Den. His book "Anyone Can Do It" has sold 250,000 copies to date. Why? Well there is the little fact of going from £0 to £320million. Straight talking and honest. This book will not tell you how to make your millions, but it does at least give you the right direction and motivation - after all "Anyone can do it!"

Richard Branson is 'the' leading businessman in the UK and after reading this book you will understand his passsion to win, sense of adventure and why he wants to make a real difference. Once again this is a book which will make you aim for the stars and start your new business or improve an existing business.

Good Luck and Get Motivated..........
